About Us

About Micro Tool & Machine Ltd.

Micro Tool & Machine Ltd. (MTM) designs and builds equipment used in the production of distribution and medium power transformers. For more than 62 years, our team in Winnipeg, Canada has worked alongside transformer manufacturers to develop winding, core processing, and radiator equipment used in plants around the world. Our focus has remained consistent: machines that run reliably, hold tight tolerances, and remain in production service for decades.

MTM equipment is developed from standard machine platforms that can be configured for specific products and manufacturing processes. This approach allows customers to introduce new equipment with lower technical risk while maintaining consistent production performance.

Many MTM machines remain in service for 20 years or more, often with upgrades and improvements added as manufacturing processes evolve. Today MTM continues to work closely with transformer manufacturers to support stable, reliable production through practical engineering and equipment designed for long-term operation.

Our Game Plan

Who we serve

Transformer manufacturers that want reliable production equipment and a practical path to increasing capacity over time. Most of our customers build distribution or medium power transformers and operate plants where consistency, uptime, and predictable output matter every day.

What outcome we create

MTM equipment helps transformer plants run stable production while increasing output as demand grows. Our machines are designed to hold tight tolerances, run reliably for long production cycles, and remain in service for decades.

How we work

We start from proven machine platforms rather than designing every machine from scratch. These platforms are configured to match the customer’s products and production processes while maintaining common systems and components.

This approach reduces technical risk and makes equipment easier to support, upgrade, and operate over the long term.

Upgrade paths

Many transformer manufacturers expand production gradually. MTM equipment is designed with that reality in mind.

Our machine platforms allow customers to introduce new equipment in stages and add capability over time as production needs change.

Why it feels low risk

Customers receive clearly defined performance expectations, on-site commissioning, and operator training. Support is provided through MTM teams in Canada and China along with stocked parts and service partners in multiple regions.

Quality, Design and Manufacturing, and Safety

Quality

MTM uses components sourced almost entirely from Canada, USA, Germany, and Japan. Most items are stocked in Canada, which shortens downtime and keeps equipment running.

Quality and process discipline are built into how we operate, from design and procurement through assembly and testing. Our operations are ISO 9001:2015 certified.

Design & Manufacturing

Our engineering and production teams use modern CNC machining, 3D printing, and practical lean methods. This helps us tighten tolerances, speed up prototyping, and shorten the time between design and delivery of machines, tooling, and fixtures.

Safety

MTM designs equipment with operator safety and practical plant use in mind. Machines incorporate guarding, interlocks, and control systems that reduce risk during operation and maintenance.

Our approach focuses on reliable, straightforward safety features that integrate into the customer’s production environment without unnecessary complexity.
